Police are investigating a fiery crash that happened early Sunday morning.
The vehicle, according to Calgary Police Service spokesman Det. Jack Russell, immediately caught fire.
“They saw the vehicle miss the intersection,” he says. “The vehicle then drove over the sidewalk and lawn of a residence and flipped on its roof.”
The car then burst into flames prompting officers to evacuate the duplex home and pull the driver from the flaming wreckage.
“The fire was dangerously close to getting out of control,” Russell says. “So the officers did a great job of getting to the residents and getting them to safety. Calgary Fire Department then arrived and put the fire out.”
Residents were allowed to return once the smoke had cleared. No injuries were reported but impaired driving charges are expected.
