Edmonton firefighters will camp out for four days on the roof of a downtown fire station to raise money and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
Paul McGonigal, the Captain at Edmonton Fire Rescue says there’s been a lot of breakthroughs when it comes to finding a cure for this disease.
“There has been significant changes and advances in the research for example a young boy that has duchenne muscular dystrophy the life expectancy is usually around 15 years but now they’re living a lot longer, they’re in their 30′s now” says McGonigal.
The campout runs until March 4th as fire crews hope to raise at least $150,000 towards the cause.
To date Edmonton Fire Rescue along with the Edmonton Fire Fighters Union has raised over $900,000 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
