A section of Eglinton Avenue — from Keele to Glenhaven streets — will be closed throughout the weekend while crews work to secure a tunnel on the Eglinton LRT construction site.
Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins confirmed the closure has since extended west to Keele Street.
“Crews are on the scene working to identify the source of the problem and to stabilize and repair it. As this is emergency work, the community can expect this work to occur 24/7,” said Aikins via email Thursday afternoon.
She said there’s no damage to the Crosstown tunnels because of the leak, but there’s still concern it could grow into a sinkhole or result in flooding.
Some homes and businesses in the area continue to have no water following a city-mandated shutdown. Aikins said Metrolinx is providing bottled water and bathroom facilities to the affected properties on Eglinton and Kane avenues.
“We are working closely with all authorities to remediate this situation as quickly and as safely as possible,” she said.
