Federal government servers were under cyberattack Wednesday afternoon, said Treasury Board President Tony Clement.
Several websites had gone down including Environment Canada, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Shared Services.
Clement could not say if any data had been stolen or whom may be responsible.
There is a YouTube posting, purportedly from the Anonymous online collective, that claims responsibility for the attack as a protest against Bill C-51.
Government workers in Ottawa were also tweeting that their email service was down as well.
Last week House of Commons employees were warned they had been hit with a cyber attack, although no data was apparently stolen.
It’s not clear if the RCMP or CSIS are involved in the investigation or how long it will last.
