Suspects are believed to be at large after five people were injured in two stabbing incidents in the early morning hours, police said Saturday.
Toronto paramedics were called to a plaza just north of Markham and Ellesmere Rds. at 2:01 a.m. after reports of a stabbing. Paramedics rushed one man, believed to be in his 30s, to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition. Another person was also taken to a trauma centre in serious condition.
Then, at 2:38 a.m., paramedics were called to the parking lot of a McDonald’s near Markham Rd. and Progress Ave., about 600 metres from the first incident, after reports of more people with stab wounds. Paramedics took one man, approximately 20 years old, to a trauma centre in serious condition and two other people to local hospitals with minor injuries.
Police said later Saturday morning the serious injuries are no longer considered life threatening.
Police believe the stabbings are related due to the proximity of the scenes and time of the calls, and are still at both scenes investigating.
