Four dead in Hwy. 401 crash near Kingston

Four people are dead after the car they were travelling in burst into flames early Thursday following a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 401 near Joyceville in the Kingston area.

At approximately 1:25 a.m. emergency services were called to the westbound lanes just west of Joyceville Road, says an Ontario Provincial Police news release. The crash involved seven vehicles including four tractor trailers, a commercial truck an two passenger vehicles.

One of the passenger vehicles became engulfed in flames. OPP say all four people have died. OPP will not identify the deceased until next of kin have been notified.

Two other people were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Highway 401 westbound at Joyceville Road will remain closed for the investigation.
