A Canadian-Israeli woman who has joined the ranks of the Kurdish militias fighting Islamic State in northern Syria has been taken captive by ISIS fighters, blogs and Islamist websites thought to be close to the militant group reported.
In an emailed statement, Foreign Affairs says the government is “pursuing all appropriate channels to seek further information.”
It goes on to say “the Government of Canada will not comment or release any information which may compromise ongoing efforts and risks endangering the safety of Canadian citizens abroad.”
The Jerusalem Post is reporting 31-year-old Gill Rosenberg joined Kurdish troops to fight ISIS and that Islamic websites close to the group were the first to report her kidnapping, but provided no proof of it.
It also identifies Rosenberg as an Israeli-Canadian.
On November 20th a post was made to Rosenberg’s Facebook page saying she was giving up control of the account to someone else for roughly 2 weeks and asked that no messages be sent to her.
Messages of concern are flooding her page as people wait for more information.
