Two Regina media outlets have been granted access to a video showing a city police officer kicking an intoxicated man.
Captured on CCTV outside a detox centre in the Canadian city of Regina in 2012, the footage has only now been released as it emerged the officer has been reinstated to the police force following his initial sacking.
[fwdevp preset_id=”8″ video_path=”m_0eBPP1tCI”]Constable Rob Power can be seen pulling up in his marked police car where an exchange of words with the staggering man, named as Eddie Stonechild, takes place.
As he exits the car and the two walk towards each other, he unleashes a ferocious kick to Mr Stonechild’s stomach which sends him crashing backwards into the concrete.
While lying prone on the ground, Const Power dons blue gloves in order to handcuff him.
Power was sacked when charges of assault were brought and later found guilty over the May 2012 incident, CTV Regina reports.
But in December last year he was reinstated after a Queen’s Bench judge reviewed the case and overturned his conviction.
Prosecutors in Canada are still battling the decision to overturn Power’s conviction, but he remains in the force.
