Ottawa police have a woman in custody after police stations were forced to close access to the public for hours on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident began at about 2 p.m. after police were called to a dispute on Pickford Dr. in Kanata. Neighbours told the Sun that up to “20 vehicles”, marked and unmarked, descended on the residential street.
“I mainly noticed them as they were leaving,” one woman told the Sun, though she did not want to give her name. The woman said police had left the area by about 4 p.m.
The neighbours who spoke to the Sun said they could not tell if anyone was taken into custody.
Although details are very sketchy, that incident led to a threat being made against police, specifically officers at the west end station on Huntmar Dr., a few kilometres away. As a precaution, police locked down not just the Huntmar station, but all stations across the city.
The stations remained closed to the public for about three hours before being reopened at about 5 p.m. A police spokeswoman said members of the public had been evacuated from the Elgin St. police headquarters during the lockdown.
She said there was no threat to the public.
