Halifax Regional Police now say the 25-year-old man who was arrested after a firearm was found on a Halifax Transit bus Thursday morning is not connected to an earlier call about someone carrying a rifle in the downtown.
At 8:36 a.m. Thursday, police received a report of a man carrying what appeared to be a rifle wrapped in a black cloth near the Halifax Citadel, a national historic site.
Around 11:00 a.m. cops received a report of a man leaving a gun on a bus.
Minutes later, officers arrested a man and “recovered a firearm on a metro transit bus nearby,” police said.
The man has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, and two counts of failing to comply with a recognizance order. He is set to appear in court Friday.
