Man charged in robberies of seven Toronto banks

Toronto police have arrested and charged a 37-year-old man in connection with a series of bank robberies.

Toronto Police say that in each instance, a man entered a bank, presented a note to a teller saying he was armed, and demanded money.

The first heist occurred July 21 at a BMO on Yonge St. The most recent happened July 29 at a Bloor St. W. TD Bank.

The robber fled the bank with money to a TTC subway station. Transit officers spotted the man on a train passing through Bay station and quickly shut off power to the system and made an arrest.

Ivan McManus, 37, of no fixed address, is charged with seven counts of robbery. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning at Old City Hall.

Staff-Insp. Mike Earl said an unspecified amount of money was recovered from the last robbery.
