A Winnipeg lawyer is being treated in hospital for serious injuries after an explosive device went off at her firm Friday morning.
Police were called to the Petersen King law office in the Fort Rouge area on Friday morning, after the woman unwittingly triggered the explosive.
The city’s bomb disposal unit was called to the scene at around 12:15pm, Canada’s CBC News reported.
Constable Eric Hofley said the woman suffered injuries to her upper body. No other injuries were reported.
Officers do not know how the device arrived at the law firm, or whether it was sent through the mail or dropped off by someone, but Hofley said that investigators believe the incident was isolated.
The explosion also damaged parts of the law office, he said.
Police have cordoned off the building and the bomb squad is on the scene to ensure there are no other devices.
Members of the public are being asked to avoid the area.
