A pair of hikers missing for nearly a week in B.C.’s southern interior has been found alive.
Search lead Paul Berry says the crew of more than 100 search volunteers were about to call it a day when the call came in that the two had been found.
“They were well off their intended route, quite a few ways north of the search area into a very heavily wooded drainage. They built themselves a shelter by the water so they had lots of water to drink, but were in an area that was almost impenetrable; very hard to see into.”
Berry says the two are doing well, quote, “all things considering.”
While Moynan does have some experience out in the bush as a hunter, Berry says the two were ill-prepared and had no emergency supplies on them.
The two have been taken to hospital and reunited with their children, who were also out at the scene of Sunday’s search.
Moynan and Carmody were previously see on June 22nd when they went for a day hike from the Cathedral Park lodge.
Search teams have been scouring the park for them since the two were reported missing, and this weekend they have ramped up the effort.
Berry says more than 100 searchers from the Lower Mainland and beyond were called in to help.
“I believe it’s 19 teams overall that have been involved from as far West as Vancouver Island, and as far East as Nelson.”
Berry says the search has been extremely challenging, with huge amounts of terrain to cover, and daytime temperatures over 44 degrees.
