Montreal Taxi driver arrested after two men hit on sidewalk

Montreal police say a taxi driver accused of intentionally running down two men who didn’t pay their fares is facing a charge of assault with a weapon.

Police reported receiving a 911 call around 12:40 a.m. about two young men who had just been hit by a taxi at the intersection of St-Laurent Blvd. and Ontario St.

An 18-year-old man suffered serious head injuries, but is in stable condition in a hospital.

The 20-year-old man who was with him had multiple minor injuries but was still taken to a hospital, and was still there Monday evening, according to police.

The taxi driver, 32, was placed under arrest and taken in by police for questioning.

Police investigators are reviewing security footage.
