Downed trees and high winds played havoc in many areas of the province early Monday, at one point leaving almost 50,000 Nova Scotia Power customers without electricity.
In Cape Breton, there are outages affecting more than 2,700 cutomers in the following areas:
Mountain Rd, Beechmont Rd, Blacketts Lake Rd, Route 4 from Spanish River Crt to Ben Eoin, Meadows Rd, and Eskasoni Rd, including adjacent streetsBen Eoin Picnic Park to MacIntyres Farm, Big Pond, Rear Big PondBenacadie Pond, Benacadie, Pipers Cove, Dirby Point, Grand Narrows.
The estimated restoration time is listed as 1 p.m.
The utility says more than 13,000 customers are starting the work week in the dark in the suburb of Bedford, while more than 11,000 are without power in Halifax.
Halifax police say traffic is being redirected on Lacewood Drive in the Halifax neighbourhood of Clayton Park because of a downed power line.
Investigators says traffic is also being redirected near Kane Street in the city’s north end because a large branch is entangled in a power line.
Much of the province is under rainfall warnings.
Environment Canada says up to 70 millimetres of rain could fall in Cape Breton and parts of mainland Nova Scotia before tapering off later Monday morning.
The national forecaster warns that flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
