A 23-year-old mother has been charged with abandoning a child after her 4-year-old son was found wandering naked outside in Etobicoke Friday afternoon, say Toronto police.
Police say the naked boy was found outside alone in the Lake Shore Boulevard West and Thirteenth Street area by a neighbour who heard his cries.
He was taken to hospital as a precaution and the Children’s Aid Society has been notified, which is standard procedure.
The neighbour who found the boy knocked on the family’s door but no one answered. She then took the boy to her home and called police.
When police arrived they couldn’t find the mom. The 23-year-old was later located and arrested.
When police asked the boy what happened, he reportedly said, ” Mommy goes.”
The incident comes on the heels of the death of Elijah Marsh, 3, who wandered from an apartment building near Allen Road and Highway 401 around 4 a.m. on Thursday.
He was found without vital signs tucked in a corner behind a house around 10 a.m., about six hours after he was captured on the building’s surveillance footage, leaving on his own.
He died later in hospital.
