The teenager accused of stabbing a young boy at a soccer field in Topsail last week has been remanded into custody to undergo further psychiatric assessment.
Nicholas Layman made a brief appearance in St. John’s provincial court this morning. He is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
Judge Mike Madden referred to a letter from a psychiatrist at the Waterford Hospital requesting at least a 30-day extension.The initial psychiatric evaluation order was made last Friday following his initial appearance in court.
Nicholas Layman will be back in court Oct. 31. Layman was in custody a short while after police and paramedics responded to the stabbing incident at a soccer field in Topsail. The 11-year-old victim was reportedly stabbed in the neck. He is said to be recovering in a St. John’s hospital.
