A 76-year-old man is dead following a fishing accident east of Halifax.
RCMP say the man fell off the Sober Island Bridge in Sheet Harbour around 5:30 p.m.
“Preliminary investigation determined that the man had been fishing of the bridge when his line got snagged. When the victim tried to free his line he slipped and fell off the bridge,” RCMP said in a news release later Wednesday.
The man’s body was located approximately 30 minutes later by local boaters, RCMP said.
Paramedics provided medical assistance at the scene but the victim died from his injuries.
The man’s name was not released.
The RCMP and medical examiner’s office are still investigating the incident.
