A man is dead after losing control of his vehicle early this morning on near Glenmore and Stoney trails.
Around 1:50 a.m. police received a call from passerby who noticed the vehicle leave the road and come to a rest in a retaining pond.
Witnesses informed the Calgary Fire Department Aquatics Rescue team where the truck had stopped in the water before beginning to settle towards the bottom.
The rescue team was able to quickly find the vehicle, locate and remove the man who is said to have been in his 40’s. He was the only one in the vehicle.
The man was transported to hospital in critical, life-threatening condition, but was later pronounced dead. EMS estimates he was in the water for about 40 minutes before being pulled out and brought into the ambulance.
Police are still investigating and say alcohol has not been ruled out as a factor.
The off-ramp from southbound Stoney Trail to eastbound Glenmore S.E. remains closed at this time.
