Rinelle Harper case : Crown prosecutors in Manitoba say they will be seeking an adult sentence if a youth charged with attacking a 16-year-old girl and leaving her to die by a river is convicted.
The teen appeared in youth court on Wednesday.
Rinelle Harper, 16, was discovered badly beaten and unconscious along the banks of the Assiniboine River by a passerby earlier this month.
Days after the attack, Justin James Hudson, 20, and the 17-year-old were arrested and charged in the vicious assault, as well as another attack on a 23-year-old woman that same night.
The pair has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault with a weapon.
Harper has been released from hospital, but is still recovering from the injuries sustained during the attack.
