Rinelle Harper has been discharged from the hospital after a vicious attack that thrust the 16-year-old into the spotlight and shook Winnipeg anew.
“They (doctors) did checks in the morning and she felt kind of weak and tired easily,” said Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) chief David Harper. “But she was feeling better as the day went on and they thought she could leave.
“I’m sure there’s going to be quite a few follow ups (to the hospital),” Harper added. “She still has healing to do. But they (the family) are relieved, very thankful for the recovery.”
Harper, 16, was found unconscious and clinging to life last Saturday morning. She had been brutally assaulted and left on the river bank.
Two men — 20-year-old Justin James Hudson and a 17-year-old male — have been arrested and charged with attempted murder, aggravated sexual assault, and sexual assault with a weapon. Both remain in custody.
