An Edmonton couple is calling for beefed up security on school buses after their six-year-old son was beaten up by another student.
His head was pushed into a window several times by another six-year-old boy on Friday afternoon, something school officials describes as a “very serious incident.”
“We have suspended the child in question, so he won’t be in school for the next week,” says Edmonton Catholic School Board spokesperson Lori Nagy. “But in addition, we have suspended him indefinitely from riding the school bus.”
There were about 50 students, from kindergarten to Grade Six, on the bus at the time.
“We are interviewing and talking with the other students. We did that as well (Monday),” adds Nagy, “To ensure that we don’t have children who are very afraid of going on the bus again. So we really need to talk with all the children involved to make sure that everyone is feeling confident about their safety on the bus.”
