Sonia Vilon faces murder charges in 2014 double homicide

A 39-year-old Gatineau woman is facing two first degree murder charges in connection with the deaths of a young couple found dead in their Aylmer home in January 2014.

Investigators arrested Sonia Vilon on Monday. She is to appear Tuesday accused of the pre-meditated murders of Amanda Trottier and Travis Votour.

QPP Sgt. Marc Tessier said the investigation continues and more charges could be laid against additional suspects.

Trottier and Votour — both 23-years-old — were found dead in their Aylmer-neighbourhood home on Jan. 6, 2014.

Trottier’s three-year-old daughter Savanna was inside the home, but unharmed. It was Trottier’s father who called 911 when he arrived to pick up the little girl, who is now staying with family.

Months ago, provincial cops said the murder might have been drug-related. Their working theory was that the couple had stolen drugs from an illegal organization and were killed as a result.

After announcing this information last year, investigators set up a mobile command post in an effort to gather more tips. Some witnesses reported seeing a car they didn’t recognize parked on the street that day.

Tessier wouldn’t say if there was any relationship between the victims and the suspect.
