A man is missing after a group of snowmobiles went through the ice in Black River Lake in Kings County, according to the RCMP.

A 26-year-old New Ross man was not found when rescuers helped two other snowmobilers.

At about 9:55 p.m. Saturday, RCMP received a 911 call and learned a group of snowmobilers had fallen through the ice while crossing Black River Lake.

On arrival it was determined three snowmobiles with their riders had gone through the ice.

Several emergency responders assisted in the search and rescue including: fire departments from Wolfville, New Minas, Canning, Greenwich and Kentville, along with Emergency Health Services Paramedics, Valley Ground Search and Rescue and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre’s Cormorant helicopter.

The search for the missing New Ross man is continuing today.

Const. Tammy Lobb says volunteers from the New Minas volunteer fire service are involved and they’re considering using the search and rescue helicopter again.
