Huron OPP say they’ve located the body of a 39-year-old man who went missing after going into Lake Huron to rescue his son.
Police say the man, Tomasz Gladkowski, and his seven-year-old son were with friends at the beach in Port Albert, Ontario, on Sunday.
After his son was struggling with an undertow in the water, he immediately jumped in after to try and bring his son to safety. Gladkowski was able to bring his son back to shore safely with the help of another man, but he was unable to make it back to shore himself.
Search and rescue teams were deployed find the man, who was reported missing at 3:30pm that afternoon. His body was discovered about 150 meters from shore.
OPP are recommending swimmers, even experienced ones, to wear life vests to avoid being pulled under the water by strong undertows.
