Toronto firefighters were able to free a three-year-old girl after her coat became stuck in an escalator at St. Clair West subway station on Monday afternoon.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene just before 12:30 p.m. on Monday. The entire rescue took about 40 minutes.
“Scary situation for the little one because she had her clothing stuck in an escalator, and when fire crews got there, they realized it was just clothing that was stuck and so they cut part of her coat away, and dismantled a bit of the escalator and got her free,” Toronto Fire Capt. Mike Strapko said.
The child did not suffer serious injuries, but was transported to the Hospital for Sick Children for an assessment.
Fire crews had to remove a couple of the panels from the escalator to free the child.
Five fire trucks and 20 firefighters were at the scene.
