A 65-year-old man and a nine-year-old boy are dead and four other people are in hospital, all but one with critical injuries, after a multi-vehicle collision in Vaughan Sunday afternoon.
“Numerous people were taken to hospital, some were children reportedly, as well. It’s a very serious collision and an ongoing investigation,” said York Regional Police Const. Andy Pattenden.
A man and a child died in the crash, according to media reports. Pattenden could not confirm details about the driver or how the incident occurred, only that a person was in police custody.
“There’s a number of serious injuries,” he added.
“Our major collision investigation unit will be here to basically map out the scene and re-create the entire collision.”
Pattenden said the roadway would be closed for hours as the investigation continued.
“Right now our focus is on the families and trying to figure out exactly what’s taken place here and that’s going to take some time to do.”
