Tim Horton’s is issuing an apology after quite the stir on social media for an man allegedly pouring a bucket of water underneath the sleeping bag of a sleeping homeless person and his dog in front of the restaurant Friday morning.
Shayne Williams with the Lookout Emergency Aid Society says this can’t go ignored by the company.
“Tim Hortons has a due diligence to the people who use their service. That’s marginalized folks, that’s service providers who are working with people. I think actions should be swift and should be harsh.”
He says the mistreatment of the homeless happens more often than people think.
“Maybe not to the same degree of what this gentleman and his dog experienced, but people are ostracized or have this perception of being ostracized in the community and usually there’s reasons behind that.”
Tim Hortons has addressed the issue in an emailed statement.
“The regretful actions in a moment of frustration at one of our Vancouver locations is not at all reflective of our brand and restaurant owner values. On behalf of Tim Hortons we sincerely apologize. This owner is committed to personally apologizing and making amends with this individual. He will also be making a meaningful donation to Belkin House, a local Vancouver shelter.”
The company has also launched an internal investigation.
