A 22-year-old man has been charged with weapons offences related to a five-hour standoff at a Tim Hortons restaurant on Gorge Road on Wednesday.
It happened at the Tim Hortons at Dunedin Plaza on Gorge Road East around 2:30 p.m.
When police arrived they were confronted by an “agitated” man holding a weapon who attempted to injure officers, officials say.
The coffee shop and two neighbouring restaurants were shut down and taped off while police tried to coax the man out.
About 20 police officers, the K9 unit, the Victoria Fire Department, the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team and crisis negotiators all responded to the incident.
Witnesses said police used pepper spray and the man was arrested around 7:30 p.m.
Police are recommending charges of assaulting a police officer with a weapon, mischief and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
