Woman dies after falling in water at Peggys Cove: RCMP

Halifax RCMP are investigating what led to a woman’s death Sunday afternoon at Peggys Cove, N.S.

Emergency officials were called to the area shortly after 1:30 p.m. By the time they arrived, a local fishing vessel had recovered the woman’s body and brought it to a nearby wharf.

“A woman was recovered from the water and was pronounced deceased,” a RCMP release stated around 3:30 p.m..

The release doesn’t state where the woman was when she fell in, and in an interview, Const. Tammy Lobb of the RCMP was unable to provide any further details.

The owner of Peggys Cove Boat Tours says a purse containing Quebec identification was recovered where the woman was reportedly standing.

The Nova Scotia government announced plans to install barriers and safety signs at the East Coast landmark in March.

The measures come from recommendations made by a team of community members and local organizations after one man died and another was rescued in the chilly waters off the rocks last year.
