20th Century Fox has issued an apology for their choice of X-Men Ads: Apocalypse promotional imagery that’s sparked immense controversy.
The poster and billboard, which were heavily criticised on social media, featured Oscar Isaac’s character, Apocalypse, strangling Lawrence’s superhero, Mystique.
In a statement, 20th Century Fox said: “In our enthusiasm to show the villainy of the character Apocalypse we didn’t immediately recognise the upsetting connotation of this image in print form.
“Once we realised how insensitive it was, we quickly took steps to remove those materials. We apologise for our actions and would never condone violence against women.”
Actress Rose McGowan delivered a scathing condemnation of the image and the decision to use it, telling film publication The Hollywood Reporter: “There is a major problem when the men and women at 20th Century Fox think casual violence against women is the way to market a film.”
“There is no context in the ad, just a woman getting strangled,” she continued. “The fact that no one flagged this is offensive and frankly, stupid. The geniuses behind this, and I use that term lightly, need to take a long hard look at the mirror and see how they are contributing to society.”

Fox knew exactly what they were doing when they put up a billboard that says, “Only the strong will survive.”
“Only the strong will survive” is their way of letting the citizens know that when chaos start to let loose in America, only those who have what it takes (resources such as guns, food, shelter and everything for living) to survive will survive.
My debate. The person that started up this issue, and got the apology used this promo picture of a woman being attacked by a man for one of her movies. – That was also distributed by Fox.
I suppose if it had been one of the male characters it would have gone unnoticed. Not to negate or down play the horribleness of such an unacceptable act and twisted reasoning for violence against women, but there is a double standard in America, especially in today’s pop culture that seems to suggest not only gender bias, but racial bias as well , all for the sake of political correctness. I understand that bad sh** happens and statisticly women are at the high end percentage-wise ,but domestic violence is not gender or culture specific. There is no excuse for violence, domestic or otherwise.
Looking at the title of this “article”, you clearly are apart of the SJW crowd upset about this. I’m not sure you’re getting the memo, but,
1: Mystique is a badass who has taken down many men, often at the same time.
2: Is being put in a tough spot by a crazy villain.
A fan of the series (clearly not you) would see this, and would note that, “Hey, this new villain might actually be a hell of a evildoer.”, and that’s clearly what Fox wanted people to think, seeing the quote. However, you have to spin it on some “They’re dirty misogynist! Burn them at the stake!” shit. That’s stupid, stop that.
