James Cromwell has been arrested after he protested against the building of a power plant in New York.
The 75-year-old star, who played the farmer in the film Babe, reportedly led a chant, shouting “power to the people” to around 40 demonstrators who answered back with the same reply.
Police used bolt cutters to remove a metal harness that Cromwell, of Warwick, Orange County, NY, and two other protesters put around their necks at a site entrance.
The three were led away in handcuffs after they refused to move.
They were taken into custody along with three other activists who would also not leave when asked by police.
Officers said they had blocked an entrance to the construction site at the Competitive Power Ventures power plant in Wawayanda, Orange County.
They were arrested on disorderly conduct charges, then released and have been ordered to appear in court in January.
Protesters said they believe toxins from the plant may cause health issues and lower property value in the area.
James Cromwell was nominated for an Academy Award for best supporting actor for Babe, and has also starred in movies including The Green Mile and LA Confidential.
