Shia LaBeouf and Kate Mara graced the red carpet for the TIFF premiere of their drama Man Down at Roy Thomson Hall.

The actor, known for his eccentric antics of wearing a paper bag on his head that read “I am not famous anymore” during the Berlin International Film Festival in Feb. 2014, skipped speaking to media during the TIFF premiere of his latest film, about a former U.S. marine searching for the whereabouts of his son, set in post-apocalyptic America.

Rolling Stone photographer Taylor Hill asked LaBeouf if he could get four frames to which the actor replied using an expletive.

“He said, ‘You’d better not f— around when you say four frames,’” Hill said after the fact. “He was joking around with me and I thought it was absolutely hilarious. He’s been in a great mood all day and he’s given everyone every photo they’ve needed.”

A couple hundred of fans waited outside Roy Thomson Hall, shouting “Shia-Shia!” when his transportation arrived.

LaBeouf’s onscreen wife played by Kate Mara, also bypassed media on the carpet.

Director Dito Montiel said he didn’t know the reason why the stars decided to skip promoting the film with media on Tuesday night.

“They’re all here,” he said. “I couldn’t answer that. Maybe they’re just afraid of paper bag questions.”

Montiel said LaBeouf “cares, maybe to an insane level” of his craft onscreen.

“People don’t think of how much you have to give, it’s craziness,” he said. “I think with subject matter like this, you gotta have a little madness and some really great acting to mix with it. And he certainly has both.”
