How do you make a $4 million dollar Super Bowl commercial go viral before the big game?
Offend the NFL and its sponsors. And that’s exactly what the popular Soda Stream Super Bowl advertisement did featuring Scarlett Johansson.
The home soda machine spot called for Johansson to ponder how she could make the commercial viral. She dropped her robe, hopped on a stage, took a sip of the drink and said, “Sorry Coke and Pepsi.”
Oxfam said it is opposed to “all trade from Israeli settlements which are illegal under international law.”
SodaStream’s factory is in the occupied territory of Maale Adumim.
The Avengers Assemble actress signed a contract to promote SodaStream earlier this month. She will appear in an ad for the company during Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday.
In a statement, her publicist said that she “has respectfully decided to end her ambassador role with Oxfam after eight years.”
“She and Oxfam have a fundamental difference of opinion in regards to the boycott, divestment, and sanctions movement,” the statement continued. “She is very proud of her accomplishments and fundraising efforts during her tenure with Oxfam.”
SodaStream will broadcast the full ad in the UK on Monday on Channel 4.
The ad has already been in the news after the removal of its final line due to a mention of soft-drink competitors Coca-Cola and Pepsi, reportedly by Super Bowl broadcaster Fox. The final cut line was “Sorry, Coke and Pepsi.”
