Tim Hortons Inc confirms rumours of job cuts

Tim Hortons is laying off an unspecified number of employees at its headquarters in Ontario.

The Oakville-based donut-and-coffee chain declined to say how many positions were affected, but that the cuts were made as part of a reorganization following the takeover by Burger King.

Below are other companies that have announced layoffs this month.

Suncor Energy Inc. says Jan. 13 it is reducing its workforce by 1,000 and trimming $1 billion from its capital budget.

Target announces Jan. 14 it is leaving Canada, closing 133 stores and laying off 17,600 employees over the next few months.

Sony announces on Jan. 14 it’s closing all 14 stores across Canada, resulting in 90 layoffs.

Fashion retailer Mexx Canada is liquidating its 95 stores in Canada by the end of February affecting in 250 positions.

Montreal-based Bombardier announces Dec. 3, 2014, it will lay off 50 temporary workers at its Thunder Bay, Ont., plant.
