An 800-pound tiger shark was caught this weekend by a man from San Antonio fishing just a few miles off the coast of Port Aransas.
He never expected to hook the 12-foot tiger shark, and the fight to reel him in wasn’t easy.
“After five hours of fighting it, I finally saw it for the first time,” Spring told the San Antonio Express-News on Monday. “I was surprised it was a tiger shark, I thought it was a hammerhead.”
Metro reported he claimed the shark was almost as big as his boat, and after biting his hook dragged the vessel around the bay.
It then took the strength of 12 men to haul it onto the dock as it was so heavy.
Amazingly, it isn’t the biggest tiger shark ever caught in the area, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. That monster weighed in at 1,129 lbs.
