After more than 24 hours, a 35-foot humpback whale entangled in fishing line and net was freed about 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Zack Klyver with Bar Harbor Whale Watch says the crews worked very hard at getting the whale free and he swam away without any injuries. He says it was tough going because of high winds.
Friday afternoon a whale watching tour discovered the whale around 1:00pm. The netting what wrapped around his head, back and tail stock. We’re told the whale was in obvious stress and breathing heavy.
A disentanglement expert flew in Saturday morning to help. The whale has been caught up near the coast of MDI before, the captain that discovered him Friday afternoon found Spinnaker tangled in 2006.
