The full moon in June has a variety of nicknames: Honey Moon, Strawberry Moon and also the Rose Moon. This time around, it can also be called the “Rare Moon.”
It was given the name “Strawberry Moon” because the full moon occurs during strawberry season, according to Old Farmer’s Almanac. The Full Strawberry Moon signaled the Algonquin tribe to gather ripening fruit. But it can also be called a “Honey Moon” because of the slightly gold tint the moon has.
A full moon on Friday the 13th in June is an occurrence that hasn’t happened in nearly 100 years, since 1919, to be precise, according to universetoday.com. And USA Today reports that the last time a full moon appeared on Friday the 13th was Oct. 13, 2000 and it won’t happen again until Oct. 13, 2049.
The full moon first appeared at 12:11 a.m. Friday, but still was visible on Friday night.
