Lake Wales, Florida – We have had a bunch of readers contact us here at Canada Journal wanting to know what is the ring around the sun today. Well it’s similar to the affect we saw on June 4, 2012 which we wrote about then.
It’s called a 22 degree halo.
“These are high dense clouds made up of ice crystals so when the sun goes through them it creates the optical illusion,” Clay said. “It can happen with the moon, too.”
Mike Clay said the sun halo is similar to a rainbow. The inner circle looks darker because your eyes are playing tricks on you, he said.
