Great White Shark Attacks Kayakers Off Santa Barbara County Coast

Several kayakers off the California coast narrowly escaped disaster after a Great White shark attack.

The captain of the boat and his brother had been fishing for sea bass around 60 miles north of Santa Barbara when they responded to a mayday call.

“His kayak was upside down and he clinging to top we get the kayak and we get him on the boat and the two other guys…took him to landing at Vandenberg boat house,” said one of the brothers.

He also said that the shark knocked the boat around eight or nine feet into the area and punched large holes into it. He thinks the shark was around 16 to 18 feet long.

They rescued three of their friends in the same area an hour later.

The shark encounter was the second in two days in this same area. A surfer was also attacked by a shark on Thursday forcing officials to close beaches to surfers through the weekend.
