Stingrays are normally docile animals. But one swimmer learned the hard way that even creatures that would rather take flight than fight can get angry and attack.
On the Gold Coast of Australia, YouTube video has surfaced of a swimmer diving aggressively toward a rather large ray.
The animal took off.
But as the man headed back to shore, the stingray decided to take its revenge and charged.
The fish may have just been issuing a warning as his deadly barb doesn’t appear to be swung towards the man.
Had it pierced a vital organ, the man could have found himself in life-threatening danger – but he managed to escape this time.
Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin was famously killed by a stingray in 2006, when its barb stabbed him in the heart while he was filming a documentary.
