Over the next few days, one of the year’s most reliable meteor showers will fill the night sky with shooting stars. The Orionid meteor shower runs from October 17 to the25th, with the peak coming on the 21st!
Some good news for viewing is that the moon will set just after midnight, making the sky much darker and therefore easier to see these shooting stars.
Unfortunately, this shower does not produce as many meteors as the Perseids did in August, but we are still projected to see at least 20 meteors per hour.
The Orionids form by the Earth passing through debris of the famed Halley’s Comet. The meteors will appear bright and very quick, so make sure you are in a dark area away from town and city lights to see the best show!
