Several videos of colourful, flashing lights hovering over North York popped up on social media overnight, prompting musings about an alien invasion in Toronto.
But a local police officer may have the answer to the mystery.
A number of people on Twitter reported seeing the strange lights in the sky moving around the area of Yonge and Sheppard in the Willowdale neighbourhood. Many of the tweets included photos and videos.

In one of them, a Facebook post by Roxanna Maleki claims the objects did not appear to be airplanes.
“We still don’t have any clue what that is. This is really strange,” said Maleki in the video posted on July 26. “That’s not a plane. That does not look like a plane.”
Another video posted on YouTube by Sarah Chun appears to show four bright objects lined up over a Toronto neighbourhood in the Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue area.
The close encounters left many wondering if the lights could have been something more terrestrial-based or maybe reflections of some sort.
One Toronto police officer even took to Twitter to chime in on what he thought was a quadcopter.
