Young sea lion found on Skyline Boulevard in San Francisco

A starving sea lion pup was rescued after being found on the side of a road near Fort Funston in San Francisco.

Officials say two passerby’s spotted the pup on the edge of Skyline Boulevard headed towards Lake Merced.

A Park Service Ranger spotted the pair protecting the sea lion and offered assistance.

The pup was placed inside a tote and transported to the Marine Mammal Center in the Marin Headlands.

The young sea lion has since been named Percevero which means “to persevere” in Latin, and is one of 115 sea lion pups being treated at the center for being underweight.

While Percevero has no visible injuries, he is receiving medical treatment at the facility.

According to the Marine Mammal Center, this is the third year in a row that the center is seeing unusual numbers of sea lion pups stranded and starving.
