Strange things happen when NASCAR goes under the lights. Sunday night at Atlanta, something, either a cat or a squirrel or a mixture of both, darted across the track right in front of race leader Kevin Harvick.
While leading the race, Harvick radioed to his crew that he nearly hit a cat. It was not a cat but rather a squirrel that avoided being hit by the No. 4 Jimmy Johns Chevrolet driven by Harvick. The squirrel later sat in the grass just off the track and enjoyed some of the action.
Fortunately the squirrel was more fortunate than the Pocono groundhog from two years ago.
Harvick would see his race go sour later on when he ran into the back of Paul Menard who was unable to get going on a late restart. Kasey Kahne would win the Oral-B USA 500.
