Microsoft Surface Mini To Use Qualcomm Chip : reports

Earlier this week, Microsoft seemed to subtly confirm its plans to unveil a pint-sized version of its Surface tablet, the Surface Mini, when it announced an upcoming “small gathering” scheduled for May 20. Since then, we’ve heard reports that we’ll be getting even more Surface models than a Mini—but a new report today seems to double down on those rumors.

According to latest report from CNET, an Intel-powered Surface is on the cards as well and it isn’t the same as the Surface Mini as the smaller tablet is believed to be powered by Qualcomm’s processor.

Sources have told CNET that Microsoft will be unveiling an Intel-based Surface and it’s likely that the new Surface will have “a new power-optimized Haswell variant” and not an Atom processor.

The Surface Mini is expected to either pack a 7 or 8-inch screen with 1,440 × 1,080-pixel resolution display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Further the tablet will run Windows RT rather than full Windows 8.

The new Intel-powered variant is expected to be a full-sized variant of Surface tablet and chances are that the tablet could very well be the rumoured Surface 3.
