A Rock Hill grandmother is recovering after police say a 2-year-old boy found a gun inside a car and shot her in the back.
Shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday, Rock Hill Police were dispatched to a gunshot victim at 1159 Stanley Dr. When officers arrived, they found a woman sitting in an orange Chevrolet Camaro who had taken one shot to her back.
Police say that a .357 revolver was left in a pouch in the back of the front passenger seat of the car, and the 2-year-old boy was able to find it. The driver of the car, who is the boy’s great aunt, told police that they were coming through the intersection of Ogden Road and Heckle Boulevard when she heard the gun go off, and she saw the 2-year-old with the gun in both hands.
She asked the female passenger, the child’s grandmother and driver’s sister, if she was okay, and she told her that she had been shot. The victim was transported to CMC Main in Charlotte.Her injuries are described as non-life threatening.
The investigation is still ongoing.
