Another child’s body has been washed up on a beach in western Turkey. The body of a four-year-old Syrian girl’s body was discovered yesterday.
The unidentified girl was found at a beach in the city of Cesme after the boat she was on sank. A Turkish search operation rescued the remaining 14 Syrians, including eight children, that were on the same boat as the girl.
This latest fatality comes two weeks after the highly publicized drowning of three-year-old Syrian boy Aylan Kurdi and the death of 22 people, including four children, a few days later.
The AFP further reports that Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Nurman Kurtumlus announced that in 2015, 274 people have died in the Turkish sea during their attempt to cross to Greece, while Turkish authorities have rescued 53,000 migrants and refugees whose boats capsized.
