A 5-year-old girl in Texas has been credited with saving her mother’s life after she suffered a seizure while swimming.
The entire incident was caught on a surveillance.
Tracy Anderwald and her 5-year-old daughter Allison capped off their spring break last Friday with a pool day: Allison’s favorite activity.
Allison has been swimming since she was 2.5 years old, but she’s never had to play the role of lifeguard until an unexpected health scare that day.
“I don’t know what happened but I went into a seizure and whenever I did I dropped to the bottom of the pool and went completely unconscious,” Tracy said.
Tracy was underwater for five minutes when Allison knew her mom was in trouble. The surveillance footage shows little Allison diving into the water to pull her mom to the shallow end to get her head out of the water. Then she ran to get her aunt for help.
“Allison came running in and said, ‘Something’s wrong with mommy,” said Tedra Hunt, Tracy’s sister and Allison’s aunt.
Doctors don’t know why Tracy had a seizure but had she been underwater for just a minute longer, she wouldn’t have survived.
“Allison immediately went and rescued her mom,” Hunt said. “This is a miracle. This is a miracle that she’s alive.”
As for Tracy and Allison, they’re looking forward to finally leaving the hospital and going home. Her mom now calls her daughter her tiny hero.
“Hands down, I feel like she saved my life,” Tracy said. “It could have been a lot worse than what it was.”
