Adele chose last night’s edition of the X Factor (well, an ad break) to share a snippet of music from her forthcoming new album.
While the ad did not feature the singer’s name or face, fans instantly recognised her voice on the ballad, leading to the inevitable explosion of commentary on Twitter.

The following lyrics also appeared on screen during the ad: “Hello, it’s me / I was wondering if after all these years / you’d like to meet to go over everything / they say that time’s supposed to heal ya / but I ain’t done much healing …”.
Adele’s third album, the follow-up to 2011’s 21, is rumoured to be titled 25 and is expected to be released on November 20, in time for the Christmas market.
Adele’s most recent track was the Oscar-winning theme song to the 2012 Bond film Skyfall.
One Republic’s Ryan Tedder, Gnarls Barkley’s Brian Burton and Swedish songwriter Max Martin are reported to have worked on her new album.
